Tom Marple, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Communications, hosted an exhibit of his artwork at the Bismarck Arts and Galleries Association member gallery on Friday, October 29. Marple’s exhibit featured over 35 pieces from his private and studio art collection featuring a variety of mediums including ink, pencil, colored pencil, oils, pastels, acrylics and digital. Marple had an opportunity to talk about his collection and share some inspiration and how his approach to style has evolved over the past few years. In a touching tribute, he mentioned the inclusion of a painting done by his late mother, also an artist, as a way to honor her wish to one day have her work hang in a gallery.
As an instructor in Bismarck State College’s Graphic Design and Communications program, Marple represents the breed of designer whose skill in fine art enhances his understanding and approach to layout and design and how he relates it to the students. Marple’s work will be displayed in BAGA’s Member Gallery from October 26 through November 28.
